Landowners within the AONB
![]() |
The Malvern Hills AONB Partnership owns no land but works with landowners to achieve their joint objectives. Landowners are represented on the AONB's governing body (the Joint Advisory Committee) by the National Farmers Union and the Country Landowners and Business Association.
The southern part of the AONB is a land of large estates. Eastnor , Bromesberrow and Little Malvern Estates, together with the Malvern Hills Conservators , make up over a third of the AONB. The Malvern Hills Conservators own the most well-known areas, namely the hills and commons. As the second oldest conservation body in the country, they are governed by their own Acts of Parliament.
One feature of this AONB is the prominent amount of common land. The term "common land" does not mean that the land belongs to everybody. It does have an owner and, more importantly, graziers have rights to keep their stock on the common.
Further north in the Malvern Hills AONB, the landownership pattern becomes more fragmented. There are two nature reserves, the Ravenshill Nature Reserve and the Knapp and Papermill Reserve , which stand as testament to the value of the landscape and wildlife.
