Monitoring

Arable Landscape

Monitoring is a vital component of AONB Management. It provides a yardstick against which to measure the many efforts to conserve and enhance the area and provides an early warning that things may be going wrong. The Malvern Hills AONB Partnership has established a methodology for monitoring change in the condition of the special qualities of the area, including geology, biodiversity and the historic and built environment.

The methodology also allows changes in the condition of the special landscapes of the area to be tracked. This is achieved through a series of 27 photographs taken at regular intervals and at fixed points. Each photograph location has been chosen to illustrate the key features of a distinctive type of landscape (or Landscape Description Unit) through reference to the Landscape Character Assessment for the area. This ensures that the methodology for monitoring landscape change is both objective and representative. Information about the Landscape Character Asssessment can be found in the State of the Malvern Hills AONB   report.
